SIRENIA publish catchy gothic/ symphonic/ female fronted metal in a respectable steady manner as not many other bands. "Riddles, Ruins & Revelations" is no exception. The album's catchiness is comparable to pop music but roughing guitars help to file it under metal. Some symphonic elements or rough male vocals bring some variation into the tracklist but in general the songs are dominated by Emmanuelle's strong pleasant voice. Nice one from the first listening. The album I've waited 15 years for! After two very good initial releases that didn't quite live up to Tristania, Sirenia changed direction in 2007 to put out their best album, 9 Destinies. (Feel free to disagree and be wrong!) Now, after a long stretch where IMO not much distinguished Sirenia from other overproduced Epica-style bands, it's finally 2007 again. Morton is at his best when he scales back the pomp to write ultra-catchy yet still heavy ABBA-infused anthems. More like this! PKMetal
